Douglas Ray Templer was born December 13, 1956, to Howard Ray Templer and Phyllis Sue Hammacher Templer in Budingen, West Germany.
Doug graduated from Escondido High School, Escondido, CA. He served in the United States Marines from December 1974 to April 1979, and then served in the United States Army from June 1981 to June 1989.
Doug then wanted to see Alaska, so he applied to be a commercial fisherman and liked it so much he stayed for 10 years. Then he moved to Iowa and worked at Farner-Bocken as a night shift manager for 18 years, retiring in June 2016.
Doug met his wife, Dana George, on Dec. 13, 1997. They were married May 14, 1999.
Doug loved hunting, riding his Harley-Davidson, camping, fishing, and spending time with his wife and hunting buddies. He enjoyed traveling, especially travels to Negril, Jamaica, to visit their friend Robert.
Doug died February 23, 2019, following a short battle with cancer. He was 62 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Phyllis Templer; and his father-in-law Donald George.
Survivors include his wife, Dana Templer of Jefferson; sisters Denise (Kirk) Wright of Jefferson and Kimmie Jacobson of Las Vegas, NV; mother-in-law Beverly George of Altoona; sisters- and brothers-in-law Dina and Darren Backen of Altoona and Sam and Kasey George of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Visitation for family and friends was held March 2 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson, Iowa. At a later date, interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Mercer County, MO.
